Growing my hair out, I’ve been having more and more fun trying out new hair styles. Below are my current faves — and I’ve also linked to online tutorials if you’d like to try them out. Each of these favorite styles below is easier to accomplish with wet hair. Perfect for summer!
One thing in common with all these hair styles? They’re easy to do! I don’t like to spend too much time getting ready, so maximum effect for minimum effort is important. And braids always look fancier than you’d expect.
And for all of the styles below, all I needed were regular and mini-sized bobby pins, hair pins, and rubber hair elastics. (And the occasional scarf.) As pins and elastics don’t take up a lot of space, I keep an assortment in my purse, which has definitely come in handy!
The Gibson tuck
This style took me a while to get right (see here and here for earlier tries), but I had a breakthrough when I realized it’s much easier to roll up my hair when it’s wet. I followed this online hair tutorial, and this is a fancier version of the style, which is also known as the Gibson roll.
The messy side bun
This is basically a wet-hair version of this hair tutorial. Here’s a fancier variation.
Braided pinwheels
Variations of this hair style. It’s also basically a braided version of this tutorial for three twisted buns.
Heidi braids
So pretty! There are many variations of this style, including here, here, and here. This style is known by many names, including maiden braids.
Scarf ponytails
So easy! A combo of the forehead wrap and ponytail wrap tutorials. If you’re at the beach or at the pool, it’s probably best to pack a cotton scarf or another material you don’t mind getting wet or salty. I also tried out a pigtail version!
Twisted up
This twisted style looks so fancy but is actually really easy! See this online hair tutorial. I have also tried out a one-sided version.
