For those of you gearing up for 4th of July, here are some ideas to keep cool, collected, and stylish for the holiday. I’ve obviously been gearing up for awhile; you can see my own patriotic-infused outfits here, here, here, here, here and here. And whether you’re American or not, red, white, and blue is a classic combo!

I personally don’t like to be too obvious with my patriotic style… no literal stars and stripes for me. But if that’s your thing, go for it!
Here are 4 main things I focus on for the 4th:
- Comfort: This is always a top consideration for me! But on this holiday, you can spend hours standing, walking, running around, etc. It’s best to find comfortable shoes (flats, sandals, low wedges) and breathable fabrics (cotton, linen).
- Mixing it up: Instead of literal stars and stripes, how about combining gingham or plaid with stripes or polka dots? How about mixing textures like straw with chambray or sequins with pleats? (I looooove how the sequins on that tank top above resemble a rope knot!). Try variations of the classic colors (like navy or maroon) and mix in neutrals (like silver, grey, or gold).
- Casual: There’s just something a bit casual overall about Independence Day. Classic American style isn’t fussy.
- Function: Where are you going to be celebrating? Going to the beach or hanging out with friends and family for a picnic or bar-b-que? You don’t want to waste time worrying about messing up your outfit or dressing inappropriately, because above all, 4th of July celebrations are fun, social events. Think shapes and fabrics that allow you to be active and enjoy the time spent with friends and family.
Please leave a comment about what you’re planning to wear or do for this year’s 4th of July holiday. Hope y’all have fun!

Thanks Emmy
Your most recent look proves it, too!
They are all so cute! The only plan I have for Fourth of July is to run a 4 mile race and then have a picnic. So I’ll be spending my day in my running gear. At least my running club uniform is red!
Thanks Erin! My personal faves are the picnic and party looks. I’ll most likely be hiking at a friend’s country place, so I’ll probably have to go a bit more rugged on the actual day
Ooh, I love that color block dress in your “party” section! Great ideas!
Thanks Andi!
It’s a new dress from ModCloth, such a cool way to do a modern interpretation of 4th of July style
