When? July 9, 2012
What for? A busy Monday at the library, a day of reference desk duty, online classes, and training workshops. Today, a couple of co-workers remarked that I look “international.” And they’re right — almost all of this outfit comes from our travels overseas! I wore almost this exact outfit more than a few times living in the UAE, as it’s light, breathable, and what I like to call “comfy chic.” And that’s pretty much my style, wrapped up in a bon mot.
The hair is in a twisted style, kind of like a French braid but using only two strands twisted around. You can see another shot of it here, plus links to the online tutorial I followed.
Details?
- Trousers: Woolsworths, UAE (2009)
- Cotton tunic: Lulu’s, UAE (2010) — you can spot this tunic being used as a beach cover-up in this post
- Sparkly sandals: Boutique shop, Amsterdam (2010)
- Bamboo hoop earrings: InPink (gift card, contest winner)

Oooh I love your hair! I think I need to check out that tutorial
Thanks! This style is actually pretty easy — it’s just twisting two strands up and around. As always with braiding, the hardest part is keeping your own fingers out of the way!
Love the top and the hair! And love that gorgeous bloom in the tree!
Thanks Lindsay! I had to stop by our roses blooming outside our building — summer in Portland is the best! Roses everywhere!
I love the tunic!! I’m a sucker for a gorgeous embellished tunic!
Thanks so much, Leah! And this tunic was really cheap — I bought it overseas at a store that’s basically like K-Mart. There are some really colorful and affordable options at Old Navy, too!
What a beautiful tunic!
And that is one of my favorite ways to wear my hair. If you do it when your hair is damp, you end up with pretty waves!
Thanks CC! I do love doing braids and stuff when my hair is wet — not only is it easier to handle the hair when it’s wet — but you’re right, it leaves you with pretty waves! That, alas, last only a night for me and my straight, straight hair.
I’m always looking for pretty up-dos during the hot summer months. This is a great one, and I think I’ll try it out.
Yes, definitely, it’s really easy to do — and looks so elegant!
