Summer neutrals

Today, Sam and I celebrate our 11th wedding anniversary! Just thought I’d let y’all know. ♥

And this is what I wore yesterday… :)

Date?  July 31, 2012

What for? Another CopyCats inspiration outfit, this time by way of Erin of Loop Looks, who was herself inspired by Lilly’s Style. A family friend recommended I try out this maxidress look myself! So here’s to you, Apryl. :)

The inspiration look had a tucked-in shirt, which I started out the day with — but I soon untucked that shirt due to comfort and personal preference. I included both versions here — which do you prefer? I ended up really liking the neutral palette, as well as the washed-out look of these photos (no retouching, this is how the pics turned out). And obviously, the Olympics have affected my subconscious, as I picked out a scarf (a thrifted find — it’s Oscar de la Renta!!!) with a watch print that looks like gold medals from afar. :)

Details?

  • Brown maxiskirt:  Marks & Spencer, UAE, 2008
  • Grey chambray shirt:  Old Navy (new)
  • Sandals:  Target (new, on sale!)
  • Scarf:  Oscar de la Renta (thrift find!)
  • Belt:  Kohls, years ago

Love it! Thanks for taking on the challenge! For some reason I can never seem to pull off the belt with a shirt look – maybe because I never feel comfortable doing so? Definitely going to try with a wider belt, as you have here. I like both the tucked and untucked look, but lean a little toward the untucked as I’m pretty casual by nature – I’d probably do tucked for work, then untuck for post work socializing. :)

The wide belt is awesome. I love that you’ve knotted a scarf in your hair for a little colour – it pulls it all together

Thanks Jenny! These maxi skirts from Marks & Spencer (a UK-based company) have seaming and bit more structure, so they’re especially good for work. I bought one in every available color they had at the time (grey, brown, and tan) when I lived and worked overseas in the UAE.
