Hi y’all, and Happy Labor Day to my fellow Americans! I’m back, and first off, a huge thank you to guest bloggers Erin @ Loop Looks, Fran @ Franishh, Jenny @ Crazy Style Love, Carrie @ Petal by Petal, Whitney @ Along the Lines of Style, Dawn @ Suitcase Vignettes, and Kacie @ Kacie’s Kloset. I hope y’all found some new favorites.
And it seems fitting that after time off visiting family back in Texas, that we also take a little flashback to the ’80s with this week’s “Inspiration Monday” style challenge from the two birds blog and boutique, by way of Jessica Hart (and the band Heart?
) ♥ And bonus! I get to combine it with Week 10 of CopyCats Friday.
Date? Sept. 2, 2012
What for? A break to enjoy the late Oregon summer and a visit to one of our favorite local coffeehouses, TwentySix Café. As I’m still off work for a couple of weeks, this casual inspiration look was right on target. There is no way I’m wearing boots right now, due to the glorious weather, but I stuck with the monochromatic inspiration look with new sparkly black sandals (thanks, Mom!), black skinnies, and a black concert tee (for The Killers, who played in Abu Dhabi in late 2009 — seriously awesome concert, involving a memorable entrance by lead singer Brandon Flowers in a military-style jacket with feathered epaulets).
I paid a little homage to the ’80s by trying my best quickest “big hair” with a little blow-drying and volumizing hairspray, and I also slipped in some dangly, corkscrew earrings, paired with new black studs (birthday gift, thanks to my mother-in-law).
I’ll be back soon with candids from our trip!
Details?
- Black skinny jeans: Target (spring)
- The Killers concert t-shirt: Emirates Palace, Abu Dhabi (2009)
- Black sandals: Payless (new, extended birthday gift from my mom)
- Dangly earrings: Kohls, a few years ago
- Black studs: Birthday gift from my mother-in-law

Hey Jen! I love your look here, the monochrome is brilliant but like the dash of colour with the rainbow writing! Yeh, someone else did rock earrings too! I couldn’t bear to do boots either (not that I had rocker ones, but still…)
Hope you had a nice break!
Thanks Kezzie! It’s nice to throw in a little color with an all-black look.
Love the hair and the Killers tee!
Thanks
The hair was actually pretty fun — felt nice in the breeze — so I might do that again.
Great outfit. Love the sandals too!
Thanks! These sandals are so cute and comfy. And Sam was sooo proud of himself for catching the glint of sunlight.
Love this! The Killers tee is awesome! I like them!
You also found a great place to pose, well done!
Thanks, Bethie!
Did you see the “Love Tabernacle” sign behind me in that first shot? Priceless!
Great look. Love the Killers tee. I have been on the hunt for great band tees to wear under blazers – a look I love but have yet to try. Yours definitely fits the bill
Just reading the other comments – I totally missed the Love Tabernacle. lol
Thanks Laura! I didn’t think about wearing this tee under a blazer… hmmm, I will have to try that out.
Hot wife!
I’m so damned fortunate.
Tee hee! Thanks, sweetie. I’d say we’re BOTH pretty fortunate.
i was thinking as i read this that your hair looked really great!! go 80s! and also, that t-shirt and those earrings are fabulous! i’m glad you had a good trip, but also that you’re back!
Wow, thanks Megan! I will have to try that again with my hair — having long hair is so much fun this time around! And yes, it’s good to be back.
hmm this post makes me realize that I don’t have a graphic tee, any tee with a band name or cartoon character. The comic sweater have been coming out but not if they are for me but I do like the cute owl sweaters. hmm sorry went on a tangent but love the basic looks like these.

Thanks Vanessa! Gotta say, I am totally subscribing to your blog now via Bloglovin — you are stunning! — and with such a fun, modern style. And I spied at least one cool graphic tee of yours, at http://stylishlyme.com/style/love-is-beautiful-santa-monica-beach-outfit/. And I think we have the same kind of gold-bar sandals — aren’t those the best?! Thanks for stopping by.
I love printed tees! Looking lovely! Love your remix version!
Thanks Denise!
Fun take on the inspiration! I like the touch of sparkle from your shoes as well as the fun corkscrew earrings.
This outfit — simple as it is — was a lot of fun.
