Inspiration Monday: Polka dot pretty

Inspiration Monday Sept. 17 — Eva Mendes

Date?  Sept. 15, 2012

What for?  I shouted with glee at this week’s “Inspiration Monday” style challenge, as I looooove Eva Mendes’s style. Also, it was another opportunity to bring out one of my favorite dresses, this polka-dot print dress with vintage-y details like the front pleating and keyhole sleeves. I always feel so feminine and pretty wearing this dress (also seen here), in a simple, non-fussy way. If that makes sense. :) And although I don’t have cool teal sunglasses like the divine Miss Eva, I brought the color into my earrings.

And when I showed Sam the inspiration photo (before getting dressed myself), his reaction? “It’s like YOU were the inspiration photo.” ♥

Details?

  • Dress:  Bealls, birthday gift from grandmother-in-law, 2010?
  • Espadrille wedges: Banana Republic, years ago
  • Stretchy belt:  Kohls, 2009?
  • Wicker-and-bakelite purse:  Vintage, Chicago art fair, 2007
  • Bead earrings:  Gift from a friend, Wisconsin, 2007?
  • Diamond studs:  My paternal grandmother’s

Thanks so much, Erin! I love little details like inserting a subtle bit of color in accessories. Makes me feel special because it’s like a little something that maybe not everybody will notice. But when they do… kindred spirits! :)

Ok, I will make sure I copy this address to my front page. Jen, what can I say, you know I love your style. That vintagey dress and bakelite/wicker purse are fabulosity. You look pretty and sweet. I love what Sam said…he’s a keeper. My husband has no idea what I wore on Monday…haha. Have a great day, Jen!! Good stuff!!

Wow, you got this one perfectly! Literally, the same! Brilliant! This is a charming dress- what vintage is it? 50′s? I was really happy when I saw this inspiration picture- I thought, oooh, I can so do that!

It’s actually a modern dress, Kezzie, with those sweet vintage-y details. I also love this dress because it reminds of when, a couple of years ago, my grandmother-in-law (who is so smart and spunky and adorable!) wanted to buy me a dress for my birthday. So we went shopping together, and I picked out this dress because it felt like a “special” dress. And it made me feel pretty. And my grandmother-in-law agreed, every woman should have a dress that makes her feel that way. <3
