When? Oct. 1, 2012
What for? Another busy day at the library filled with teaching and meetings. For today’s “Inspiration Monday” challenge, I focused on pairing a full skirt and a button-down, along with a statement necklace. From a distance, this skirt doesn’t look like it has much texture, but up close, you can see it’s a lovely brownish tweed with lots of autumn tones threaded throughout (see above). Also, this necklace — which is originally silver but has developed a bronze-y patina — comes out more silvery against this grey chambray shirt.
All in all, a serviceable “professional”-looking outfit for me, but honestly, I didn’t feel all that inspired. Thank goodness I added that navy belt at the last minute — it really makes a difference now that I’m looking at the photos. (Also, I added lapis lazuli studs, to play off the navy, but you can’t really see that in the pics.) Maybe it’s the subdued color tones of the outfit, or maybe it’s just because I’m trying to find my balance at work — I think I should wear brighter colors at the beginning of the week just to cheer myself up!

i think a belt will oftentimes make everything look better! i love the chambray shirt! the darker color is unique!
Thanks! Note to self: Add more skinny belts to the shopping list…
I really like this shirt! I agree with two birds, the darker color is unique!
Thanks Bethie! I do like this darker chambray — I think it’s actually more versatile than the regular chambray blue.
This outfit looks perfect for work and the belt really is the finishing touch. I wasn’t feeling super inspired by my Monday outfit, either, but everyone said I looked lovely so I’ll be okay with that
Definitely, I’ll be ok with that, too!
Definitely, I agree that a belt adds interest and fun! I like your outfit, it’s chilled and relaxed- just what I need when harassed and busy!
True, Kezzie, sometimes that’s the mark of a well-rounded wardrobe… when you can grab a couple of pieces and go!
I love your gray chambray. It would look great with a light blue jeans. Without look too denim.
Thanks Van! I think this gray chambray would also look good with some dark wash denim… it would be fun to play around with a chambray-and-denim combo!
I like the subtle difference in textures, you did a great job! Thanks for linking up to Sunday Style!
