When? Oct. 7, 2012
What for? A late-morning movie outing (don’t you just love those?), a date with my sweetie that was just right for the relaxed vibe of this Rachel Bilson-inspired outfit. I stuck with the basic color palette of blues and greys, but switched things around a bit. I picked up this tweedy jacket/blazer (what do you call this thing? should I combine the two words and just call it a jazer?) years ago, and its unstructured construction always looks better — and less bulky — cinched with a belt. I still go back and forth on whether or not I should keep this jazer (oh yes, this word is happening!) around, but ultimately, it does fill a much-needed hole in my wardrobe for when the weather is in that in-between seasons stage.
The hair was equally relaxed — I swooped it up in a not-so-neat ponytail, pulled the ends around into a loose bun, and finished it off with a few small bobby pins. Easy, easy.
Details?

- Light sweater: Walmart??? had too long to remember
- Skinny belt: Kohls, spring shopping details here
- Jeans: Gap, long ‘n’ lean style in tall
- Grey flats: DKNY via Macy’s, last fall

I love your “jazer” super cute and cozy looking! Heather
Thanks, Heather! And that’s the word I was looking for, “cozy”!
Love this! I love the jacket and that you belted it. Very nice look!
Thanks Bethie — sometimes the most relaxed looks come out the best, eh?
i definitely think you should keep the jazer (love that word). it’s a great layering piece, and i love it belted.
Yay, jazer is happening!
Very cute outfit!! Perfect for a movie outing.
Thanks, Jeanine! I tend to get really cold in movie theaters, and this sweater/jazer combo definitely staved off the chill.
Jen, great inspiration number. Better than mine, hahaha. I just put on some darling flower girls instead. Hey, wondering something. Did you see the new Button for two birds and for Inspiration Monday and their site? (because they are new and available cuz oh – i made them…) button those instead? ya? hahaha. I’m joining you. You join me?
Thanks, Renae, for the heads-up on the new button! I will definitely update that for next week. And I’m headin’ your way now via Bloglovin…
I love that you made up the word jazer. I hope it catches on
Me, too! Hmmm…. maybe I should research if it is already is a word? Off to exercise my librarian skills…
Update on jazer: Apparently, it’s an ancient city mentioned in the Bible, and it was located east of the Jordan river. I say this word is definitely available for a modern sartorialist definition.
the material of this blazer and the fact that you belted your blazer

Thanks Brett for stopping by! Always love to see your inspired outfits each week
Ooh, those are my kind of jeans! They look really comfy! The tweedy jazer is lovely too
They are comfy! I usually wear them with higher heels, as they’re the taller length, but decided to go more casual (and baggy) that day. Changes the whole look when I wear these jeans with flats!
I like the jazer a lot, actually. I struggle with standard blazers because they can be too constricting on my broad shoulders so alternative fabrics like this one are great. You look fab!
Thanks Gracey! It’s funny how the structure of the jazer is a lot more apparent from the side view — from the front, I always am a little afraid that it looks quite bulky.
great inspiration and look!
xo,
Sandy

Thanks Sandy
Since you are a librarian i think its ok to make that word happen. I am still trying to make Bol (busted out laughing) happen instead of lol which is so old and used way too much. How are you Jen? It is so nice to be back from vacation as I missed my pets so much and I love October in South Jersey rather than at the beach where you can’t see the leaves changing. Anyway, as usual I love your look, easy and such a simple throw together for a relaxed date. Jeans are a great fit, make you look long and lean although I think you are tall already. I finally added this link to my front page so I can just click on. Thanks for stopping in…have a great week. dawn suitcase vignettes xo
Thanks so much, Dawn! It’s funny how the style of these jeans is called “long ‘n’ lean” so I guess they’re doing their job! I am juuuuust tall enough to be considered tall (5’9″), but I always did want to be 5’11″ while growing up — for some reason, that to me seemed like the best all-around height. But I’m happy where I ended up.
